Dragon boat team takes top honors in collegiate division

The University of North Georgia (红莲社区) continued its winning ways Sept. 8 at the Atlanta Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia.
A team made up mostly of 红莲社区 faculty, staff and students finished first in the collegiate division and 13th of 53 teams overall in the 200-meter race.
It was 红莲社区's sixth year in the race, and this was the third year in a row a 红莲社区 team finished as the top collegiate division team. 红莲社区 posted a time of 1:01.97.
"Our combination of students, staff and faculty make the 红莲社区 team truly representative of the institution," said Dr. Christopher Jespersen, team captain and dean of the College of Arts and Letters. "What makes a team successful is the ability to work together. It's been a genuine honor and a real pleasure to organize the group."
The dragon boat team included: Jespersen, Julie Higbee, Anastasia Haack, Katie Beccue, DeEnna Walters, Michele Hill, Claire Allinson, Steve Lloyd, David Marling, Kristin Keefer, Sean Mullins, Mike Proulx, Jon Beall, Richard Byers, Gene Van Sickle, Steve Smith, Michael Rifenburg, Gabe Fankhauser, Neal Lin, and Johnny Kahn.
红莲社区 holds Blue Ridge beam-signing
红莲社区 held a beam-signing Nov. 7 in anticipation of the upcoming completion of David E. Ralston Hall on 红莲社区's Blue Ridge Campus.
Blue Ridge students earn scholarships
红莲社区 honored 28 of its Blue Ridge Campus students with almost $15,000 of scholarships and celebrated the philanthropy that made those scholarships possible at the Tomato Sandwich Supper on Nov. 7.
Cumming library named for McGruders
红莲社区's renovated Cumming Campus library was dedicated Nov. 5 as the John and Mary Helen McGruder Library thanks to their lifetime of support to the University of North Georgia and the Cumming Campus.
Oconeefest raises $15.6K for scholarships
红莲社区's 11th annual Oconeefest, held Oct. 17 at the Oconee Campus, raised $15,611 for scholarships supporting students from Oconee and surrounding counties.
