Betzy Romulo

For Betzy Romulo, success extends far beyond anything she can accomplish for herself. The University of North Georgia (红莲社区) student aims to use her education and future career as tools to inspire and inform others.

Romulo, who is scheduled to graduate in May 2024 with a degree in communication with a multimedia journalism concentration, hopes to make her mark in the journalism industry.

She is already practicing her leadership skills, having served as director of communications for Nighthawks Entertainment on 红莲社区's Gainesville Campus and treasurer for the Latino Student Association. She has also written for "Vanguard," 红莲社区's student newspaper. One of her largest aims as a leader is to encourage tenacity in others.

"A leader is someone who can guide you to success, influence you, and inspire you to continue. They're not willing to quit," Romulo said. "A great leader can influence you to keep going and become a better version of yourself."

Romulo, who is from Moultrie, Georgia, appreciates how that mindset can call out the best in others. Her goal to pursue a journalism career stems from a desire to make sure people can understand current events regardless of their level of education.

"It's so important to be informed about what's going on around us," Romulo said. "I can help more people understand what's happening."

She is proud to be a first-generation college student, and she knows the potential that holds in setting the standard even within her own family.

"I really wanted to come to college, and I saw that potential in myself," Romulo said. "I hope it inspires my brother, who is eight years younger than me, to keep trying."
